About Us

We are currently based in County Durham and have returned to breeding and raising quality German Shepherds after a break of almost 20 years (kids and jobs got in the way for a while).  Now that the kids are growing up we decided that we needed to start thinking about what we are going to do with our future. It was an easy decision to make as we have both loved the breed for many years. The really nice thing is our kids have got involved too and love helping out with the training and excercising of the dogs. Our 2 sons Adam & Dan enjoy showing some of the dogs and to date have done very well. Please see the show results page to see how they did. We are all looking forward to this years GSD rallies. The kids have now got their partners involved and I can see this continuing into the next generation.

I was first introduced to the German Shepherd Dog as a small child and was lucky enough to be given one of my own when I was 14 years old. 'Cally' was a wonderful first dog, we went to obedience classes and also did a bit of ring craft. She was an inspiration to me and from her my love of the breed just grew and grew. Since then we have never been without at least one GSD in the family, the place just wouldn't feel like home without them. Some people say we are mad, but rather that than be without our beloved dogs.

When I met Andy he had never had a dog before but I soon changed that and very soon he became as hooked as me. Now we have children and thankfully they are GSD mad too and argue over who will get to train the 'next puppy'

We live near Beamish Museum in an area surrounded by fields where the dogs all love to run free and play. All decisions made here at Mountsett are jointly made by myself & Andy, we usually listen to what the kids have to say too but then ignore them anyway.

Our dogs are first and foremost a part of the family and we love them all dearly. We feel extremely honoured when we are able to breed some of their offspring but if for any reason any of our dogs prove not suitable for breeding they will be neutered and will remain part of our family or live with good friends.
